“ A blogger mentioned the best fish fry in the area. I've been going back regularly for over a year. Shrimp cocktail is perfect. Miguel is terrific. Senor Gilley has a big heart. Google the article small restaurant with big heart. Their Christmas Toy Drive says it all. Nearly 500 kids lined up last year to pick a toy. ”
“ I have been patronizing Xminnas Cafe Town for over 2 12 months now - several times a week. I find that they not only have the best coffee in town, but that they serve a very good breakfast for a very inexpensive price. Myrna, the owner of the cafe, is charming and smart and fun - a lovely person to do business with. David, who sometimes cooks and other times helps in a variety of ways - besides also being a regular customer - is a really great guy who also offers snorkeling and dive classes at the beach. I have been lucky enough to take a snorkel class with him - and plan on doing more. Guadalupe, the primary morning cook and server, is a lovely woman and a wonderful cook. Even though her primary language is Spanish, we are having better conversations every day. The pizza - available after 5, until 10:30 - I enjoy tremendously. The servings are extremely generous for the price. The Wi-Fi also is extremely strong and does a great job of uploading videos to YouTube, which a less powerful Wi-Fi cannot do. The restaurant is very conveniently located as you come up the hill into the pueblo from the big highway. It is clearly patronized by people from the resorts and residences along the beach, as well as people from the pueblo. But there is also a crew of local Mexican folks who hang out sometimes in the evening, who are among the most fun people I've ever had a chance to be around. All the staff here are obviously very well liked by the people from the pueblo, who know them well. I recommend Xminnas Cafe Town very highly. ”
“ The best place in Akumal! Good ceviche (please add octopus!) and amazing Cowboy quesadillas! Beef version was really amazing. Please add aguas de sabores to your menu! Absolutely recommend and definitely continue back! ”
“ GILLY'S is the best place to eat. Not expensive, the food is great! And the margaritas are fabulous! Very cozy. The outside seating overlooks the street, which allows you to take in the local culture. Service was prompt, and food was hot. It's one of my favorite spots I visited. And I visited it several times during the week I was there. ”
“ Great place to eat in Akumal. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. I would especially recommend the fajitas - so tasty! Very welcoming staff. ”
“ We stopped in for drinks after eating dinner in Akumal Playa. The drinks by the beach weren't strong enough, so we drove over the bridge & stopped into Gilly's in Akumal settlement to find a decent cantina. The drinks were great and the service was excellent! My son had 3 shots of tequila & a pina colada. I had a margarita & my husband had a cerveza and a pina colada, which we shared. Drinks were good and the price was much more reasonable than on the other side of the highway. I recommend Gilly's margaritas & pina coladas! We will definitely stop by again before leaving Akumal! ”
“ Great food with friendly fast service. We had a garlic-butter prawn meal, with perfectly cooked vegetables topped up with some chicken wings, beer an tequila. If you are staying in one of the resort areas, do yourself a favour and get out to Gilly's for real Mexican flavour... at a fraction of the costs. ”
“ Stopped by after a beach day at Akumal and loved it! Everything by the beach was so overpriced and this was super reasonable and authentic. We got spots on the side patio looking over the town and it was amazing. All the food was delicious! ”
